Holiday
The
Information Exchange
Monday thru Thursdays
10:30am
Born John Robert Holiday more
years ago than I am willing to admit. Raised in Long Bridge
Pennsylvania, a village of about 13 families in the hills of
Pennsylvania with the one-room country school and all that
goes with it. I have had the good fortune to have lived in
small towns all my life, moving to Flagstaff in 1968. From
that point on, I knew Arizona would always be my home.
I have been a country person
all my life and while in Flagstaff I had the opportunity to
go on the air as a Disc Jockey for the local country
station, KAFF Radio. Working just part time hooked me as a
radio person. Guess it gets in your blood?

When I first retired, I worked
as a volunteer Park Ranger at Alamo Lake State Park during
the winter months and then at the Campgrounds here on the
Tonto National Forest during the summers. When I again
retired, Ron Gibson talked me into working extra shifts for
KMOG in Payson. Last January I once again tried to retire
and now I am the Information Jockey at KCMA and enjoy every
minute of it.
KCMA is truly a community radio
station and almost an extended family to all of us involved
in the station. In addition to KCMA, I still write for the
Payson Patriot, work as a volunteer with the Payson Police
Department and as a Docent at the Zane Grey Cabin. Maybe
one day I’ll get this retirement thing right?
As to the “Doc” Holiday, I
served in the Hospital Corps with The Navy Reserve and with
a last name like Holiday and living in Arizona….it’s hard to
escape the “Doc” part.
I enjoy my on air time with
KCMA and have no desire to live anywhere other than Payson
Arizona. The people and the western heritage we enjoy on
this mountain are hard to beat!
